Does American Airlines open up partner award space closer to departure?
Does anyone know if American Airlines will open up more partner availability as the date gets closer? Trying to look for a JAL flight from HKG to SFO on April 29, 2024, but April 26 to May 7 has nothing available. TIA!

Typically yes, but you can never be 100% sure.

Nothing to do with AA. It’s Japan Air that doesn’t release a lot of space to AA or AS etc

Start checking to every North American gateway from HKG. That’s YVR, SEA, SFO, LAX, SAN, DFW, ORD, JFK, BOS. Yes, it would be great to get SFO, but first get anything, then try to upgrade to your desired flight. Or try starting from TYO or another city you can position to.

This is like asking “Will American Airlines open up award space around Christmas time?” No, the flights are going to be rammed full.
I wouldn’t be planning on using JAL to get to Hong Kong that time of year.
