Flights to anywhere in Hawaii from SAN or LAX are always ridiculously cheap. Save your points, position to CA, spend a night and fly there on the cheap on cash

Sooner the better. Doesn’t usually get much cheaper unless oil/gas drop. Probably not going to happen with the wars going on

I booked flights with Alaska Airlines and American Airlines (two one-ways) for 20,000 points each leg from Denver to Oahu. I only paid $12 total in fees.

Might make sense to look for flights from bigger airports too like Cinncinati (CVG), which probably is cheaper.

If you already know the dates you’d need to be there, I’d get flights as soon as possible.

I don’t know what airport you’re flying out of or into, but just running some sample searches from my home airport LAX for the month of April on Virgin for Delta flights, British Airways for American and Alaska, and Aeroplan and Avianca for United.

There seems to be good economy award availability to OGG (Maui) and less (but present) award availability to HNL (Oahu) for 12.5k-15k each way, which would be ~2cpp or greater return for cash prices around $600-$700.

Anyway, from your airports and dates, see what’s available on those partners I just listed.

If it is a Chase Sapphire card you can transfer points to Southwest partnership 1:1.

Other option is to get a new Hawaiian Airlines credit card. They give you enough points to get 2 r/t tickets from Oakland/SF.

With tickets around $600-$700, it’s probably not the best value to use points unless there is a really good deal.

I’d probably do what William recommended on Southwest or break up the trip and hop to a west coast hub and take a cheap flight to HNL.

I would suggest buying now. If you don’t purchase basic economy tix, most airlines will allow for you to rebook at the lower fare with no fee, and give you a travel credit for the difference.

Of course this plan is only good if you will be able to use the flight credit within 12 months of the original purchase. Definitely check with your airline of choice and confirm their cancellation policy, but I know this is the case with AA and a few others. Good luck and have fun

Just checked for you using Southwest. $680.

But you can buy Southwest Giftcard for 10% off (sometimes even lower during sales) on Costco.com.

    That gets you to $610.

    Then wait for Southwest sale.

You can do it online, and it will tell you if the prices has dropped.

You can cancel flights for full credit till 10 min before the plane departs.
