What Are Best Travel Gifts For New Travelers?
Posted by Helena on November 28, 2023 at 6:39 pmMy niece is going to graduate from college this December and she is taking a consulting job so she will be traveling quite a bit.
As a graduation present, my sister is going to send my niece to Brazil with her friends for a week over Spring Break.
She has never traveled before so am wondering what are some good travel gifts for someone who is new to traveling?
She told me she already has Away Luggage but besides that what are the best travel gifts?

Hands down Air Tags!
Best $23 I’ve spent.
I would never have bought them myself but I was gifted one and it is amazing for my checked luggage or in a carry on that might get gate checked!
I love being able to see if my bag is in the airport I land at so I’m not stressing at baggage claim.

Noise canceling headphones for sure!
I like Airpods Pro.
They are compact but as powerful as the Bose overear headphones.

If she is going to be a consultant traveling through airports, hotels, and lounges, then definitely a portable powerstrip!
Long cord, multiple people can use it, not bulky.
I have had mine for over 5 years and it is still working great.

Off the top of my head, I’d say packing cubes, power bank, extra long usb phone cord.
All items are under $10 at Amazon.
These are the exact REI packing cubes I use too but they are only available at REI and not Amazon.

Don’t know if she is a light sleeper but I got a tiny white noise/sound machine to travel with for my last work trip as all my hotels were in downtown locations.
Was great to help me tune out some of the noise and get a good night’s sleep.

1. Air tags
2. Small backpack with built in RFID blocking
3. Global entry/TSA precheck
4. International adapters, if he plans to travel abroad
5. Compression socks
6. Head/neck rest (I have one that’s inflatable, so it takes up less space)

Depending on how she’s traveling (work is paying/leisure) and the network of airports that he frequents.
I really like my Priority Pass Lounge Membership which gives me and two guests access to certain lounges or will give me credit at some restaurants at different terminals.
She can also get it by signing up for a premium credit card like Capital One Venture X.

I always take a portable night light for the hotel bathroom.
Don’t know how good of a gift that would be BUT it is super useful.

On my trips to Asia, I bought some travel items that can transform into different forms, but I think you can find them online too.
I have a JanSport Driver 8 backpack that has skate wheels and shoulder straps that can be hidden.
You can roll it, hold it, or wear it on your back.
I also have a pair of jeans that can be turned inside out, so it’s like having two pairs in one.

That backpack looks great.
I didn’t know they made one with wheels.
Thanks for sharing!

I’ve really been enjoying using this bag myself.
It seems very durable and well-made.
However, my wife mentioned that while she thinks it looks great, the weight makes it less ideal for her to use as a backpack.
She said it would work much better as a rolling piece of luggage instead.

Besides luggage, some great travel items are:
- Portable phone charger to keep the battery alive
- Comfy travel neck pillow for long trips
- Travel adapter to charge devices in different countries
- Portable Bluetooth speaker for impromptu dance parties
- Travel-sized toiletries to save space

If she is going to be traveling a lot then I’d say an Anker power bank.
They work so well and are so useful if you’re going to be out taking pictures or otherwise using your phone a lot all day.

Digital luggage scale is a lifesaver!
Saved me a ton of baggage fees by making sure I am not over the limit.
