Can I do a free stopover in Doha on Qatar Airlines using American Airlines miles?
Or I would have to book directly with Qatar to do a free stopover?

American Airlines does not offer stopovers on award tickets.
You can have a layover of up to 24 hours.

If it’s showing in AA, it will probably show directly in Qatar as well if you have Avios.
With Qatar, you may be able to do stopover.

The stopover rules of the award program are what matters (not the operating airline).
