I’ve used Ultimate Rewards points with the Chase travel portal to rent cars at 1.5 cents per point since I have Chase Sapphire Reserve.

I thought it was an okay deal.

I do it for almost every trip!

If I don’t then I use my Venture to erase the purchase.

Is it possible to use points to rent a car?

    Yes.

Is it the best / most valuable use of your points?

No, not by a long shot.

Unfortunately, the points game doesn’t really have any sweet spots for car rentals.

You’ll have to accept middling to poor value for your points if you absolutely have to save cash.

If you’re flexible about the company you rent from, Autoslash is an excellent, free tool for tracking your car rental and alerting you when a cheaper deal is available.

I used to all the time when it’s 5K to 12K for a minivan for the week.

Ever since Chase went back to xLoyality or whatever that small company they purchased was called.

    It’s way more expensive.

I get better deals with my corporate discount.

Do you have the Capital One Venture X?

Then I’d say use the $300 travel credit and I believe you can use the rest with points.

You can, but it isn’t a good value.

I find paying cash is always a better deal.

However, there are some people in this hobby that want everything travel related to be “free”, by using points.

I prefer not to waste my points on low-value redemptions.
