I typically book at Costco or book direct then use Auto Slash to monitor any price reductions.

If you don’t have car rental elite status then use AutoSlash.

Costco Travel is a close 2nd if you have a membership.

Costco Travel gives all companies quotes and includes a bonus 2nd driver for free.

I find my best deals through Travelocity.

Most of the time way cheaper than direct and my Hertz status upgrades still work if I skip the counters and go straight to the President’s Circle area to pick a car and then swing by the booth to have them sign it out.

I bounce between Costco Travel and Hotwire.

And I always check for a deal closer in, then cancel and rebook if I see a lower price.

Doesn’t matter where you book, you just need to make sure you decline any optional additional insurance.

I almost always use AutoSlash, but every now and then you’ll find a better price somewhere else when you shop around.

Renting directly through Hertz or through an online travel agency is fine.

I booked directly thru Hertz, paid with Chase Sapphire Preferred, damaged a car in Switzerland and Chase paid, no problems.
