Do Americans Need Visa To Visit Paris, France?
Posted by Nicolas Murazik on January 15, 2024 at 11:11 amI am American and it’s my first time traveling out of the country to Paris this summer.
Will I need a visa for France or do I need a visa for Schengen?
Or is just a passport required?
I have no idea what is required.

The EU has just implemented a visa requirement for US citizens under 70 but the Schengen Zone ETIAS start date has been pushed back to 2025 at least.

Unless you’re going for the Olympics, you might want to avoid Paris anytime during the Summer of 2024.
It’s going to be so crowded and the prices for everything are much higher than normal.
Accommodations are being booked up really far in advance, and plane tickets cost a ton.
Even if you’re planning to go in the months before or after the Olympics, prices are still much higher than normal because demand is much higher.
Additionally, a lot of famous sites will have temporary stadiums built near or around them that they put in place far in advance of the actual Olympics.
Your view of the Eiffel Tower might include bleachers for the beach volleyball stadium – not exactly picturesque.
And security will be extra tight. Something as simple as walking to the store could be interrupted by multiple security checks if you happen to cross into areas near Olympic venues.
They will have large secure zones around each stadium – a much wider space than you might anticipate.
So if you’re not going for the Olympics, you might have a very expensive and very different experience in Paris than you might have hoped for.

No, as of right now, you don’t need a visa to visit Europe if you are a US citizen.
You just need a US Passport and you can stay for 90 days.

I just flew into Paris and didn’t need a passport.
I’d check the US and Paris immigration sites though.
That being said, Air France’s app had a list of documents I needed (just my passport) and I uploaded it into the app.
