I enjoy these questions because lots of folks really need this info.

The only US airline that gives you (2) free checked bags on every flight is Southwest Airlines.

Other airlines have different fees, but you can dodge them by having certain credit cards or elite status.

Or, you can pack light and use a carry-on bag plus a personal item like a pillow (case), if they’re not charged extra either.

Sometimes, depending on how much stuff you’re taking and the airline, it might actually be cheaper to send your bags ahead to where you’re going.

It varies depending on the airline and the type of ticket you choose.

When booking with points, you’ll find out whether a bag is included or not, just like when booking with cash.

    Which airline?

Normally, you won’t get it unless you booked first class, have their credit card, or have status (either from the airline’s alliance or the airline itself)

If you have *A-Gold status and you’re flying with United within the US or Air Canada within Canada, you’ll get a baggage allowance.

Other airline alliances might also offer baggage benefits for passengers with Alliance Elite status.
