If I Am Flying British Airways, Can I Use My American Airlines Account?
If my flight to England is operated by American Airlines but it’s actually on British Airways, do I need to have a British Airways account or an American Airlines account?
I’m really confused about which frequent flyer account to use.

In a similar situation, I hold Gold status with American Airlines and will be flying back from the UK on British Airways flights that I booked through American Airlines.
It’s a bit confusing because my Gold status grants different perks on British Airways than on American Airlines.
My 8-year-old is on a separate reservation, and British Airways informed me that they couldn’t confirm if I could select her seats 7 days out, which is one of the perks, for an 8-hour flight.
I’m just hoping it all works out at this point and looking forward to traveling with points next year

It’s simple to create a British Airways account if you need one.
However, since your reservation is with American Airlines, if you needed to make changes or cancel your flight, you’d do so through American Airlines, not British Airways

Since both airlines are part of the OneWorld alliance, you can use your American Airlines account with British Airways and still earn miles.
Works vice versa too!
