• Does Chase Travel Insurance Cover Car Break In?

Posted by Becky on December 10, 2023 at 3:24 pm

My stuff was stolen out of my car when I did valet parking at Hyatt Centric Montreal.

I have Chase Sapphire Reserve card and Hyatt Discoverist status.

Over the holiday weekend, my partner and I stayed at the Hyatt Centric Montreal for 3 nights.

Since we arrived at the hotel very late, we were tired after driving and decided to use valet parking.

The self-parking lot was hard to find and would take a few minutes walk.

During our stay, we didn’t take out the car at all because we have a friend in the city who drives.

Today after checked out, the valet brought up our car and we noticed that it had been burglarized.

The car was disheveled and several things were stolen (extra car battery, fleece blanket, shoes, phone chargers, trash cans, etc).

We complained to the front desk and she told us to send her an email with the list of items missing and she will talk to her manager.

None of our windows were broken, so the front desk said that it had to be someone on her team…

We trust the hotel and expect the valet parking services to be reliable the moment we give our car and keys.

It’s our first time staying at the Hyatt.

Has this situation happened to anyone before?

Do you think the Chase Sapphire Reserve Travel Insurance covers car break-ins?

What should I ask Hyatt to do?

    Any insights would be appreciated.

Police report should be the first step.

It would be best to file a police report because then they would take it seriously.

Also this happened to me years ago and they never did anything about it so in hindsight…

Many valet stands are contracted services.

Verify if they are or actual hotel employees.

Not familiar with Canada, but you better file a police report.

If your stuff is stolen, how else would you document it?

Did you file a police report?

Surprising that the front desk said it had to be someone on her team.

At least they admitted it so they should pay for everything that was lost.

If they took the battery, how could they start the car?

I’m guessing they may assume they left it unlocked, not that the valets stole.

The hotel should have had an incident form and it will be covered under their insurance.

Press the issue and I hope you took pictures.
