• Will My Singapore Airlines Waitlisted Award Clear?

Posted by Helena on October 16, 2023 at 6:21 am

Question on Singapore Airlines waitlist clearance chances.

Looking to book SQ business from Bali to SFO and I see it showing waitlisted for all award fares on all flights.

Travel is still 5-6 months out.

Should I transfer points to SQ and get on the waitlist or is it likely that SQ waitlists generally don’t clear easily?

Booking is for 2 pax and the cost is 107k points per person.

Does that seem reasonable for that flight?

I haven’t done a SQ redemption before but based on reading online that seems about a good price.

But the aircraft is still the A350 and not the new business class.

    Any insights would be appreciated.

For a business seat with a saver award, you must book a year out, otherwise book with Advantage.

The waitlist clears only two weeks before the departure date, so most don’t get it.

This means you must have a backup plan.

I was cleared for the first-class waitlist after 3 months.

I was waitlisted 11 months out (Dec 2020 for November 2021 travel date), and it cleared 8 months before the departure date.

    But that was during covid.

I had to cancel it because Covid flared up again in Asia at that time.

Waitlist is very unlikely to clear from my experience.

I wouldn’t bother with waitlisted rewards.

Only book if is it shows real availability that you can book.

It is a very stupid system.

I wouldn’t risk it since you can’t transfer miles out once they are in your Singapore account and miles expire after 3 years and no way to extend them.
