How To Avoid Single Supplement Cruise Fee?
Posted by Mazie on July 16, 2024 at 8:12 amHeey!
Has anyone managed to find a way to avoid single supplement cruise fees when traveling solo?
I wanna book a cruise for myself, but of course the price almost doubles when I select 1 passenger only.
ps. no friends available to come with me

I’ve run into this as well for cruises, the solo traveler cost is just too high for me to justify, especially as the cruise itself often needs to be paid for with cash instead of points, unless you find a rare great deal.
I don’t have a workaround other than strong-arming someone to go with you.
If you’re gutsy you could try to go with a stranger off the many solo traveler facebook groups, but certainly, this can be very problematic for a good number of reasons.
Or you can meet your new best friend?!
Lol I’m not saying I’d recommend this necessarily, it’s just one of the few options I’ve thought of.

Royal Caribbean has some ships with a few solo, inside cabins.
A workaround, perhaps, is to get someone willing to have their name used for the booking, and then if there’s a big discount on the second person, use their name and get a relatively lower price.
People fail to show up for cruises all the time.
Your price won’t change because they “couldn’t make it” to the ship.

I’ve started traveling with a company called Overseas Adventure Travel and they don’t charge single supplement fees.
Great prices and the price includes airfare but you can book your own using points.
They also offer referrals so when you refer someone you get credits or cash back.
I did the Amazon and Galapagos this year and booked Delta first class with points and got referral credits.
It was an amazing trip!!
Heading to Africa with them next year.

As far as I know, Norwegian Cruise Line is still the only cruise line to offer no single supplement fee.
I wish more would do so.
I have the same issue with a lot of land-based tours as well.
I am a photographer and would like to do photography tours/workshops but am not willing to bunk with a stranger or pay as much as an extra $1000 for my own room.

There is a Facebook group called “Zero or LOW single supplement cruises” or “Solo Cruiser Deals – Reduced or Waived Single Supplements“
