Can I Pay IRS Estimated Taxes With Credit Card?

Posted by Lelia on October 15, 2023 at 4:34 pm

Question about paying estimated taxes, I’ve never done it before but would like to try it this quarter to meet a sign up bonus.

I looked at a few IRS pubs, but answers to these questions weren’t obvious.

      A) Can I pay the estimated taxes anytime during the quarter up until the due date in mid-January?

      B) Looks like there is a form that goes with the payment.

Is there a way to submit the form online, or do I mail it in?

      A) Yes, you can pay your estimated taxes with a credit card.

There is typically a fee to do it, so I would only do it if you are trying to meet the minimum spend requirement.

      B) No need to mail anything

Yes, you can basically pay anything you like and get it back if you overpay when you file your annual return.

It will come back as a refund.
