• How To Rent A Tesla For A Roadtrip?

Posted by Hobart on January 8, 2024 at 4:04 pm

I am going on a road trip vacation for a week along the California Coast and wanted to know if there is a way to rent a Tesla car?

Figure it will save us some money on gas by using an electric car.

I think California has a large supercharger network so seems like the perfect place for a Tesla car rental.

I have Chase, Amex, and Capital One points.

Just an FYI that only some credit card car insurances cover Teslas, so double-check that.

I just rented a model 3 from Hertz in Philly for $45/day.

Good experience except for the lack of a standard charging plug adapter, so my free hotel charging failed, and had to plan for an extra 20 minutes for a paid super charging session on the return.

And the app kept forgetting the car and resetting to defaults.

      That’s odd.

I rented a Tesla in Boston from Hertz and found the J 1772 adapter in the trunk and was able to use a hotel charger that way.

    Check out Turo.

It is like Airbnb but for car rentals and there are a lot of Teslas on there.

I rented from Hertz in Palm Springs last year.

It was a lot of fun to drive and it could go very fast.

Charging was not so much fun.

I used the Chase Ritz card which did not exclude Teslas for coverage.

    Many Hertz locations have Tesla.

My tip is to set aside some charging time before returning the car.

Budget, Avis, and Hertz all rent Teslas now.
