Is JetBlue Plus Credit Card Worth Getting?
Posted by Jackie on March 1, 2023 at 4:56 pmWas wondering if it is worth getting the JetBlue Plus Card?
I’m in NYC and fly from JFK mostly, so coverage is good here and I like the airline generally.
Right now I’m purchasing mainly on my IHG Premier Card to build IHG points.
So I’m thinking of either Chase Sapphire Reserve, Venture X, or Jetblue Plus to build airline points.
Jetblue is more restricted but cheaper.
Is it worth it if JetBlue may be my primary airline?

I love my JetBlue card.
But realistically I only ever use it to book my airfare.
Really it’s worth it if you have a player 2 and you both like to take a checked bag with you.
If we fly once a year, and we both get free checked bags for each leg, the card pays for itself.
Another bonus is that in-flight purchases are half off, so really alcohol and those snack boxes they sell.
We do usually grab a box or two on 3-hour or longer flights because the discount makes them worthwhile.
We did fly to Florida for my 40th birthday in 2019 with another couple and I booked everything on my card, so all four of us got free checked bags (think that’s the max, you plus three).
But at $30 for each bag, each way, we saved $240 ($30 x 4 people x 2 directions).
If you’re more of a solo traveler, it may not be worth it.

From that list of 3 cards, I would definitely go Chase Sapphire Reserve or Venture X over the JetBlue (B6) card.
If you were a heavy B6 flyer with checked bags often then maybe it would be worthwhile but otherwise, flexible points currencies are king.
Both the CSR & Venture X cards have their strengths and not quite weaknesses but rather not standouts.
Would you be using lounge access a lot to justify the higher AFs?
If not the CSP may be a better fit and then get some Ink cards to boost your points balance.

Jetblue Plus Card is a great way to earn miles.
Enough spend you can hit Mosaic status without ever stepping onto an airplane.
Granted I’m not sure why you want to do that, but it’s possible.

I’d avoid Chase Sapphire Reserve. The annual fee on CSR is $695.
I spend about $2K via cards per month, so $24K, say $30K per year.
Maybe $40K with special trips. (Not counting Amazon, whose 5% I’m not going to give up, and thinking about Bilt for the rent).
And their travel agency sucks.
So I’m not sure if it’s worth it.
Mainly for lounge access, especially as JetBlue doesn’t have lounges – but usually they’re in different terminals anyway so not worth the run.

I think the JetBlue card is worth it.
I think they had a huge SUB back in 2021 or so, which is when I got the card.
I mean, if you just fly three segments a year on them; you earn the cost of the card back.
And I fly back-and-forth between Salt Lake City and Fort Lauderdale five or six times a year.
So, even if I don’t fly JetBlue for the round trip, if I just fly them for five or six one-way trips, then I’ve already earned back the cost of the card.

I feel like the JetBlue card might be worth if you got their status match from Delta recently as opening the card can let you retain the status for rest of 2024.

It is for me but once I hit Mosaic all spending goes on Platinum or CSR depending on who is paying (myself or work).
I love it because NY based with kids.

It just depends if you fly JetBlue a lot.
If yes, then it makes sense to get the credit card, since you will get more miles.
