• My Review Of Filing A Claim With Allianz Travel Insurance

Folks just wanted to share my good experience with an Allianz Travel insurance annual plan.

For 20+ years my wife and I have been self-insured traveling, except for maybe two trips where insurance was required.

However, coming out of Covid and being an Organ Transplant recipient (Kidney) I felt it made sense to get a plan that covered pre-existing conditions and Covid.

There seem to only be a few good reports on various travel insurance plans.

I ended up selecting an Allianz Travel Insurance annual plan based on comments in this forum and one blog’s Covid isolation write-up.

On the Tuesday after MLK day, we were due to fly home from New Orleans to DCA on Southwest.

We were at The Windsor Court at the end of a one-night FHR stay (very nice) when we received the email that Southwest canceled the flight due to the winter storm and rescheduled us for Thursday.

We extended our checkout to 4 PM and got organized.

I ended up booking a Wednesday flight on AA for 16k each.

We moved back to the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot (they upgraded us to a HUGE suite on this paid visit) where we had used or two free nights from the legacy IHG cards (not as nice a room then, but good).

We had a nice $120 dinner after wine hour, with one drink each and two orders of Crawfish Beignets.

The next morning we Ubered to the airport.

We used the airport bus when we were paying.

All told we paid $357 for the hotel night, dinner and Uber.

First I tried to claim on / via a phone call, but they said the other insurance had to be used first.

So I made the claim on Allianz which has a $300 cap per day, I expected that $57 would not be covered.

The Allianz claim was all done online.

I uploaded a hodgepodge of one-way, plus companion Southwest tickets and all our receipts.

Within about 3 days it was approved.

There was a delay in payment, maybe I messed up my direct deposit info because later they emailed to say a check was sent.

So within 20 days, I had my check in hand and the claim was done, no back and forth, and the full $357 was paid.

It was VERY easy and I’m happy.

We pay $485 per year for the Allianz All Trips Premier Plan.

I believe Allianz is also the backend provider of most of the credit card travel insurance from Chase, AMEX, etc.

I had a lost bag with Lufthansa and filed a claim with Chase via Allianz.

It was relatively easy and they paid out the claim after submitting all the info online.

Allianz was fantastic when my daughter’s husband developed a medical issue that caused them to not be able to take their Mediterranean cruise.

They just bought new policies for their rebooked cruise and it was around $250 per person.

Allianz is the only company I’ll use.
