• My Underwhelming PointsYeah Review

Posted by Agustina on December 24, 2023 at 12:01 pm

I wanted to share my Points.Yeah review after subscribing this morning to the paid tier.

I think I am going to request a refund due to the number of false positives.

I want to share two example searches.

The first search I ran was LAX to IST.

Points.Yeah indicated award space at 50k points via Iberia.

The problem is that Iberia doesn’t let you search flights to IST at all.

I checked British Airways, American Airlines, and Qantas, but the space simply isn’t there.

Next, I searched JFK to HYD.

Points Yeah indicated availability for 53k points on Turkish Airlines.

Sadly, the TK site does not have this availability, and neither do Star Alliance partners.

I ran a total of 5 searches after subscribing this morning.

Each one had not a few, but MANY false positives.

I wanted to share these data points for anyone who is on the fence about paying for PointsYeah.

It’s a useful tool if you are okay with disappointing false positives that you have to filter out one by one.

For me, that process makes the utility of the site negative, as running searches on each carrier’s site will take me less time than verifying and re-filtering false positives from Points Yeah.

I would also save time by just opening a ton of tabs for Point.me searches and waiting them out.

I’ve had issues with it lately for flights to Tokyo.

It showed lots of availability for JAL First and business from multiple different airports.

And when I got to AA, it either came up but unbookable (phantom?) or didn’t exist at all.

Pointsyeah helped me find several biz seats to IST and HND recently.

They did send an email recently about issues when they launched their multi-date search tool.

You probably weren’t doing the search right.

I’ve never had issues with Points.Yeah and use it frequently.

I know they’ve been adding new features so maybe a glitch?

None of them are as accurate as doing your own searches.

They often leave out major rewards flights and often show flights that are not available.

This is Troy from PointYeah, I want to address some issues mentioned

1 We call IB from their backend API, we have no control over whether their frontend has this airport or not

2 Airlines no longer share exact same inventory as before, so what you see in A, doesn’t mean you can still see with another partner, it is the reason we built the site

3 No site is more accurate than us, even airline own sites has phantom spaces, delay sync, frontend blocking, etc

    Thanks for the understanding

Also, For TK, you are not searching at right place, TK has two places searching for Star Alliance, one is under standard search, and another one is under your account detail, “miles transactions”.

Both results are not SAME, it is the way they design the site, again, we have no control over their front end.

Lastly, most airlines including UA block AI redemption from the frontend, you can call, that’s why you won’t see it with any other sites.

Last I also want to mention about IB, IB backend and site doesn’t have married segment restrictions for some destinations/partners, you can piece them together one by one with mixed cabin, that’s why you can see some flights are on IB, but not on BA, because BA has married segment restriction
