Should I Wear A Mask On The Plane In 2024?
Posted by Constance on January 1, 2024 at 6:56 amShould I still wear a mask on the plane in 2024?
I couldn’t find any CDC mask recommendations for 2024, only from 2022.
I am traveling soon and know that it isn’t a requirement to wear a mask on the plane anymore but was wondering if I should.
I am a 40-year-old female with no pre-existing conditions.

I do.
It’s not necessarily just about Covid but about all the other sickness that people fly with and don’t have the courtesy of wearing a mask to keep germs at bay.
I have found I’ve not been as sick since wearing one while traveling.

I didn’t wear one this trip and I would say there was a small handful of people wearing masks.
I’d recommend it too, nothing is worse than starting off vacation sick

100% recommend you wear a mask on the plane.
I don’t want anyone’s germs.
Not your covid.
Not your strep.
Not your common cold.
I’m going on vacation or getting back to work and don’t want to ruin it, so I always mask up now.

A different perspective:
I wear one not because I’m worried about sickness/germs, I wear one because the air in planes is so dry that my sinuses and throat get really irritated.
I have gotten a bloody nose from it.
Wearing a mask helps the moisture / humidity from my own breath staying contained.

I might be off, but I think the science on it is that planes have reasonably good filters and masks protect others from the wearer more than the wearer from others, so masking isn’t really that helpful unless everyone is doing it.
I wore a mask when traveling with a minor head cold, but didn’t wear the mask on the way home when I felt better.

Plenty of people still wear masks or always did even before Covid.
I would do whatever makes you feel comfortable and not worry about what others think about it.

The problem is that the folks who should be masking, don’t.
I have traveled recently and the coughing and sneezing going on around me was stunning.
I would really appreciate it if those folks would be more considerate, but I can’t control the behavior of others, only mine.
So, I mask when on a bus and when on the ground on a plane.
