• Do Americans Need Visa To Visit Malaysia?

Posted by Isobel on December 6, 2023 at 4:34 pm

I’m going to Malaysia this January, but I’m so confused about the Malaysia visa requirements for Americans.

According to a Google search, I need a visa to enter Malaysia as a US citizen, but on the same page, it says that I do not need a visa if staying under 90 days.

I’m only there for 2 days.

Do Americans need a visa for Malaysia and is there a Maylasia visa on arrival?

    Please help!

Google searches are never a good idea for visas.

Go to the country’s embassy website or US State Department website for accurate information.

As others have said, no visa needed for Americans.

However, they do technically require proof of onward travel (I’ve probably been there more than 10 times and never been asked, though), and you also need to ensure you have at least 6 months remaining on your passport.

    FYI:

“Effective December 1, 2023, all foreign travelers entering Malaysia are required to complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card at https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac/main .

This is an online pre-arrival form that must be submitted within three days prior to arrival in Malaysia. U.S. citizens with permanent residence status in Malaysia are exempt from this requirement.”

    It’s exactly what it says.

If you’re staying over 90 days you’ll need a visa.

You do have to fill out an online form before entering, but you only need an actual visa if you’re planning to stay over 3 months.

    I was there last year.

No visa needed as a US tourist for a few days or weeks.
