• What’s Best Backpack For One Bag Travel?

Posted by Aubree on January 15, 2024 at 6:44 pm

    Hey fellow wanderers!

I’m gearing up for a solo adventure and diving into the world of backpacks for single bag travel.

The options are overwhelming, so I’d love to tap into your collective wisdom to find the best backpack for one bag travel?

I need a travel backpack that is carry on compliant, so no hiking backpacks.

Being a backpack nut, I have enjoyed many various styles and makes.

A good REI pack tends to fit well in me, but the one pack that sent my brain to another realm is the Osprey Fairview 40.

Hands down the most comfortable pack I have ever put on.

I usually fly on budget airlines while in Europe so I use this smaller Lululemon bag.

It’s within the size requirements of a personal item, which is always included, unlike a carry-on.

Packing bags are a must though, and typically allow me to have 3 pairs of pants, 1 sweater, 5-6 pairs of socks and underwear, and 5 shirts.

Shavers and other things still have enough room as well (in my use).

I have the Nomatic travel bag 40L is perfect for a 3-7 day trip.

Did 10 days in Europe recently and it was a breeze.

Comfortable and has a lot of side compartments.

The Rick Steves rolling backpack is the best of both worlds and fits restrictions for any international flight.

For carry-on you usually have to be at 40L or less.

I have the Women’s Deuter Trail 29L and I’ve traveled with mine for years.

The cool thing is I’ve never had to pay for a carry-on because if I had to it would fit under my seat.

It is my backpack for the weekend or two weeks.

I just do laundry if I have to.

Far and away the COR Surf Travel Backpack.

Got it on Amazon for $94.

Great warranty too and super tough to boot.

My husband and I each have the 28L.

Because we’re not fully retired we have to take work with us. I can fit my laptop, 2nd sidetrack screen, iPad, toiletries, and clothes for a week in it.

Straps tuck to carry like a suitcase if needed and it opens just like a suitcase.

Also has two ‘secret’ security pockets, great for passports and cash.

I’ve tried many and will never try another.

I recommend the Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45.

Bit pricey but well worth it.

    Will last a lifetime.

Not necessarily the best but I use the Osprey Farpoint 40L.

    It’s been great for me.

Use it for trips that are 1 week + often.

Interested to see what everyone else uses!

I think I have the REI Co-op Ruckpack 40 Recycled Pack – Women’s – it has a calm shell opening, and compression traps.

The straps are cut for women and are way more comfortable….whatever you get try it on!!!

Getting the women’s with straps custom for a female build is a game changer.

Osprey Fairview 40 paired with an Osprey Daylite Plus.

I have used it for a week and have used it on a 4 month trip!

Love it and currently, it is 5 years old and holding up great.

I have the Peak Design 45L and I love it.

It’s a pricey bag but it’s worked beautifully for me in Japan, the PNW, and Central Europe.

It fits in the overhead no problem, and I have smushed it under the seat in front of me.

It sticks out a little under the seat but ok.

I don’t see it qualifying as a personal item free bag on some international budget carriers, but it’s good on regular US domestic flights.

I really like the Tomtoc Backpack from Amazon.

Sitting in the Dublin airport after using this backpack and it performed beautifully and was a bit over $80.00 when I purchased it.

    I really love AER packs.

    This is what I use.

Recommended by Pack Hacker which is a great resource if you’re looking for a bag.
