We rented a car at Edinburgh Airport and drove around 2000 miles across Scotland.

Our rental from Costco offered the best price compared to other options.

Despite one flat tire incident, easily resolved at a tire store, our journey was smooth, though some roads and shoulders were rough in places.

Our experience renting from Sixt in Scotland was excellent.

I’ve had positive experiences with various car rental companies in the UK.

One key consideration is opting for an automatic car, especially if you’re not accustomed to driving on the left side.

It’s essential to allow ample time for the journey from Scotland to London, as motorways tend to be narrower compared to highways in the US, potentially extending travel time beyond Google Maps estimates.

Having both driven and taken the train from London to Scotland, I would recommend the train, unless you’ve allocated enough time for overnight stops along the way to London after passing through Edinburgh/Glasgow.

One way rentals are obviously going to be way more expensive than a normal roundtrip rental, just remember that.

Any specific reason you want to rent a car?

Otherwise, the train is super easy and stops in all the major cities on the way to London.
