• What Does Credit Card Car Insurance CDW Actually Cover?

I’m a bit confused about the primary collision damage waiver (CDW) offered by my Chase Sapphire Reserve for car rentals.

Does credit card car insurance truly provide comprehensive coverage for theft, damage, injury, collision, and liability?

Also does CDW cover damage to my rental car or another vehicle involved in an accident?

What about all passengers in both cars, bystanders, pedestrians, or property like trees or buildings?

Or would I still need to purchase some form of basic coverage through the rental company to ensure full protection?

I just don’t want to be in a situation where I get into an accident and find out that the Chase Sapphire Reserve car insurance doesn’t actually insure the entire car or damage to others.

Thanks for any clarification on what does CDW cover.

The collision damage waiver only covers expenses directly related to a car accident.

Theft or contents may have their own policies, and you should also think about factors like loss of use with rental cars.

To be certain about what’s covered, read the terms and conditions of your specific credit card.
