• Should I Stay At Intercontinental Grand Stanford Or Conrad Hong Kong?

Posted by Violette on October 2, 2023 at 11:12 pm

I have a one-night stay in Hong Kong coming up in late December and looking for recommendations for the best hotels in Hong Kong.

Does anyone have opinions or reviews about the Intercontinental Grand Stanford vs Conrad Hong Kong (and almost double the points, 44k IHG to 80k Hilton Points)?

I’m IHG Diamond Ambassador (expiring, thanks for the tip!) and Hilton Diamond.

My current plan is to come in on EK 384 BKK-HKG in J and sample the EK A380 bar, grab a room, see the town and enjoy the nightlife, sleep in, hit up some foodie stuff during the next day, fly out in Shower Class on EK 385 the next night (so late checkout at 4pm at the Intercontinental helps, but I will be traveling light, I may leave most of my luggage in Bangkok).

Mostly interested in room quality (I want it dark with good blackout curtains and a comfy bed after I go to Lan Kwai Fong), late checkout, and easy access to MTR/Airport Express.

Saving 36k points for later is nice too.

I don’t have enough for the Hong Kong Regent if you’re curious, though I could by then.

If it’s worth the extra to spend 70k IHG…maybe?

I love the Conrad and always get upgraded to one of the top floors and a large room.

Based on your timing I see (EK 384 arriving in HKG at 18:05), I wouldn’t blow 80k Hilton points if you’re not going to be there to enjoy the lounge for twilight cocktails.

The breakfast is very good either in the lounge or in the lobby (though if your goal is foodie stuff you may save your stomach space for more interesting adventures).

The Intercontinental didn’t upgrade me under the old program, but maybe it does now.

The Conrad is one of those properties that is great to Elites, much like the other Conrads in Asia, in a good location for getting around Hong Kong.

The views are worth it too.

I do not know about the Intercontinental though.

44k does sound like quite a bargain though, particularly for an IHG property.
