Honestly Rakuten are much easier to deal with.

    I like both.

If my travel goals involve AA miles, I’ll use the AA shopping portal.

If I need AMEX points, I’ll use Rakuten.

    It’s situational.

Are you trying to earn LP’s?

If you are trying to earn status or build your AA balance, then go with AA.

Do you want to up your MR balance so you can use them to Fly J/F, then go that route.

You don’t have to pick either or.

    You can do both.

Seems like Rakuten always has higher multiples, so I’d go with them.

AA misses SO many purchases and it takes months to “look into it.”

Still waiting on a $500 purchase at 10x to post from over 2 months ago.

If Rakuten misses a purchase, they post it immediately after receiving a copy of the receipt.

AA because I’m working towards AA status.

Unfortunately, it’s not as good as Rakuten and I feel like I have to check every transaction.

This week I got a reply saying one in question will take up to 8 weeks.

Rakuten is much easier and when you do contact them they sort it asap.

We accumulate MRs much easier and quicker in other ways, so Rakuten is not imperative for our situation.

    Depends on the merchant.

Generally, I prefer Rakuten, the payouts reflect quickly, and I prefer MRs flexibility.

I am chasing AA status match from Hyatt Globalist so lately I have used the AA portal more recently.
