It might end up costing a bit more in Avios points, but they’re partnered with Chase and Amex for point transfers.
You can find not only flights with JAL, but also business class options with Qatar Airways if you’re open to a longer route with a layover in Doha, for example.
I booked my flights 330 days in advance using Membership Rewards points for a trip on JAL, and it cost a little over 400,000 points for two people round trip.
Keep an eye on availability there, but the award seats tend to go quickly.
Finding availability with Virgin Atlantic or ANA is quite challenging at this point.
Seats get taken up very fast, so you’ll need to search regularly to see if any saver award space opens up.
On a different note, you could also consider ZipAir.
They operate out of LA and offer lie-flat seating for around $3,000 round trip during the time you’re planning to travel.
That’s pretty affordable compared to JAL, which typically costs over $6,000 for a one-way ticket.

I used to fly Norwegian from London Gatwick to Chicago O’Hare, and for the price, it was fine.
You just had to bring your own water and sandwich, but it was only about $350 round trip on a 787 Dreamliner.
Way better than flying United’s old 767.

I did mine with EVA yesterday and had no issues.
I was even surprised that the points transferred instantly (they say it may take 3 days).

You can use Singapore KrisFlyer with Lufthansa to get miles from your Chase account.
I’ve booked several trips with Lufthansa like this.
The only catch is it takes a day or two for the miles to show up in your KrisFlyer account.

I am unwilling to invest a large sum of money in luggage, as it’s essentially a consumable item, especially considering how roughly baggage handlers treat it.
It never fails to surprise me when my bag returns to me intact.

We started flying into Porto and can’t say enough about the Yeatman Hotel.
We stayed for 3-4 nights.
Then we rented a car and drove to the Douro Valley which was beautiful if you’re into wine.
There we stayed at Six Senses Spa Douro Valley for 2 nights, which is now an IHG property.
Finished up in Lisbon for 3-4 nights and flew out from there.
Everything in Portugal is amazing and you will love it!

Four Seasons doesn’t have a loyalty program.
They do invite influencers, famous people, athletes, etc. to stay complimentary from time to time to showcase the resort, but they focus on luxury and the elite who pay for the exclusivity and privateness of the resort.
I find that it’s best to just pay the cash on a prepaid stay through Amex FHR if you have an AMEX Platinum card.
You earn 5x points for your stay and get breakfast and a resort credit usually (some are spa and some are F&B) just depends on location.
It’s money well spent as I’ve never had a bad stay at any of their properties that I’ve been to.
The service is hands down some of the best service I’ve ever had which is why I continue to choose them when I need a break from reality and the long hours I work.

Hotel Mousai in Puerto Vallarta is incredible.

This is an old urban myth that has been disproven many, many times over.
Incognito, VPN, clearing cookies, etc. will have very little impact, if any, on what the airline website shows for available tickets.

100% recommend you wear a mask on the plane.
I don’t want anyone’s germs.

Not your common cold.
I’m going on vacation or getting back to work and don’t want to ruin it, so I always mask up now.
