The United card might get you free baggage (if it is domestic flights).
Don’t book through the portal though, with AMEX you can get the 5x booking directly with the airline.
If the trip is next year, make United your airline for the $200 credit on Amex for next year.

It’s typically cheaper and easier to just hire taxis and shuttles depending on your needs.
They kill you on mandatory insurance for rentals so if you find any kind of what looks to be a good deal, make sure to read all the fine print very carefully.
You (can) avoid some of the gouging by having your credit card write a letter that states you’re covered and for what specific amounts.

You may need to leave at least $500 or $1,000 available credit on a card besides the minimum credit limits.

In my opinion, West Jet is the best airline in Canada.
Flown both Air Canada and West Jet many times and West Jet doesn’t disappoint.
