You also have to check in your tickets on the app.
Just used the app in Italy and had no big issues.
You do need cell service at the station to check in.
The only issue is you need to know the train station name.
ie: Roma Termini for the main station.

There is no way to avoid the UK APD and taxes.
They are imposed on all tickets (revenue and award) and the carriers collect it.
The only way not to pay is not to fly out of the UK.
These taxes/fees are just a part of travel…

I’m planning to redeem points via the Chase Portal getting 1.5 with the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

Which ever program you choose, make sure you get their branded credit card.
Hopefully, your work allows you to book it on your card and get reimbursed.

From my experience with AMEX, it is 60 days, but better to do it before your statement is due.
Otherwise you have to pay the annual fee and close the card, and then they mail you a check for the balance of the annual fee.

I love my Bilt card.
It’s a no-brainer for renters.
I did my entire last vacation with just bilt reward points.

Adobe rental car was fantastic a couple months ago.
Straightforward pricing.
And they accepted my Chase car insurance no issue.
There is the ridiculous mandatory insurance you will have to get no matter who you rent thru.

It’s exactly what it says.
If you’re staying over 90 days you’ll need a visa.
You do have to fill out an online form before entering, but you only need an actual visa if you’re planning to stay over 3 months.

I’m from Madrid and visit every year. Terminal 4S (satellite) is huge.
From my experience traveling back to the States, the gates for US flights are at the very end of Terminal 4S so there will be a fair amount of walking to do plus the terminal train.
The airport signs estimate it will take you about 20min to your gate once you pass the “TSA” check.
The police check point is usually not too bad, but I go through the EU line, which is shorter most of the times.
One more thing to consider is one extra check you’ll have to go through right before getting to your gate.
There is an additional check for US flights.
You just show your US passport and boarding pass, but it’s one more step.
I think it’ll be tight. If your kids are not too young, make them run I’ve done it with mine before.

It means the percentage of time in the air you’ll be in a premium cabin.
You should use it to decide if the point value is worth it.
For example, if your 30% premium cabin is from LA – SF then SF – London, then only 30% of your trip would be in Premium (LA to SF), while the SF to London would be in normal Economy.
