It’s best to have something in writing from the parents especially if you don’t share the same last name as the minor.
There are free travel consent forms you can download online that serve this purpose.
My brother uses this one when he travels with his minor son.

If you have Capital One, there is a transfer bonus to LifeMiles so you can see if there is availability via that program.

I’ve successfully used “0000” on credit cards when I’ve been asked for a PIN and didn’t have one set up.

Between the two, the benefits are similar.
I’d lean towards Chase Sapphire Preferred because its trip insurance covers up to $10k for non-refundable expenses.
Capital One Venture X only covers up to $2k for claims.

Hopefully, your Chicago flight will depart on schedule.
Mine was delayed by 30 minutes due to luggage loading, and boarding was prolonged because they were taking photos of all passengers until they reached the end and then hurried to get us on the plane.
This reduced my 75-minute connection time to less than 40 minutes, but immigration control was smooth, and my gate was nearby after that.

Uber from ORD to downtown Chicago typically costs around $40-$50, which we find less hassle than waiting for the train with luggage.
However, the train is easy and safe, just be aware that it might not be running late at night or could have longer wait times.

Everyone in Europe uses WhatsApp so voice / sms isn’t really needed.

I love my Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II in-ear noise cancelling headphones.
They are smaller to carry, but don’t block as much noise.
I can’t stand any of the over-ear ones because my ears always end up hurting.

Yes, I booked my 5 year old in business class with points via Flying Blue.
You might have to call when you assign seats though.
I think children can only be in certain seats in business.
