• Can I upgrade my economy flight to first class using miles?

Posted by Taryn on October 26, 2023 at 1:24 pm

I’d like to fly from Honolulu to Boston on Hawaiian Airlines.

Economy tickets are 50K per person one way. The first-class tickets are 130K per person one way. The one-way cash price of economy is $335-$475 depending on fare class (main basic, main, main refundable).

The upgrade from a revenue fare from Hawaii to North America is listed as 25K-50K one way.

Does anyone know if there are restrictions/capacity controls on these upgrades? And what main cabin fare is upgradeable?

The page does not specify, just that the ticket must be a revenue ticket.

Basically, if I book an economy ticket on a flight that has seats in first class, am I guaranteed the ability to upgrade for 25K-50K miles?

As long as there are seats available at the 130K price, then you call in and upgrade for 50K with a main fare.

Use expert flyer. A space is 25k upgrade. If you see a bookable 130k it can be saver or flex. I pay cash regular economy all the time then upgrade with points.

I did this with a trip from ICN to HNL. Hawaiian Airlines support is in the Philippines and here in Hawaii, their call center has a reputation for being not great so YMMV
