For Israel, as everyone’s saying, credit cards are accepted widely. Amex here and there.

I would recommend having some cash for vendors, flea market shopping, and for small donations at holy sites (getting a red string bracelet at the Western Wall, for example).

Like others said cash is for smaller places and also for tips, although you can tip in dollars too. In Jordan, some guides are cash only. We had a great guide in Israel, and great drivers and guides in Jordan if you need any recommendations. We used all private drivers and guides. Our guide for Petra was also Fantastic and arranged for the guys to get us up the steep steps in Petra too, all cash. They were happy with dollars or dinars.

Israel yes. All majors and Apple Pay. Jordan will take credit card. But some very local places may only take cash.

I’ve been to both, Israel this year and Jordan several years ago. Had no issues with using cards. Did not use Amex at all though. I would get some ATM cash for smaller purchases. Enjoy, both are amazing countries. Sunset in Wadi Rum is just as magnificent as walking into Petra!!
