• Can you use frequent flyer miles to buy train tickets in Europe?

Does anybody know if there is any way to buy train travel or a rail pass in Europe with miles? I realize it may not be a great deal, but I’m trying to get rid of some miles.

Weirdly I was exploring Air France flights from lax-bru & the cdg-bru section was on the train. I realize that isn’t exactly what you meant but it is using miles for train travel in Europe.

If it codes as travel and you have the Venture X then you could try the purchase eraser. I don’t use that because there are many better ways to redeem points, but it might be an option for trains if you really want that. Also, beware that a rail pass is not always the best option (even if it ends up cheaper). I travel a lot within Europe and depending on where you are going train is not always the most convenient. I like the flexibility of choosing the best mode (train, bus, plane,…) based on the circumstances.

Uber now supports booking train travel at least in or from the UK (and gives 10% back in credit), and you can pay with Uber credit. And you can convert some miles to Uber credit but I never looked into it so no idea how bad is the rate.

I thought Star Alliance now partners with Deutsche Bahn.
