How does British Airways recognize OneWorld Emerald Elite status? Is it different because it’s not US-based?

I made a booking (refundable) and it is charging me to select seats.

I am One World Emerald and usually, it lets me pick a premium seat for free, and sometimes automatically puts me on a waiting list for first class.

Do I need to call in this case?

You need to enter your frequent flyer number that has your elite status, so probably add your AA number to the BA reservation. A quick call to BA can add it.

OneWorld status is a huge perk, suggest searching for and reading all of the benefits analysis and instructions articles out there.

OneWorld is an umbrella – but your status is attached to one airline. That airline’s frequent flyer number has to be on your booking.

I don’t know if you can do that via BA’s website (a lot of airlines don’t allow you to add another airline’s FF number on award bookings) but you should be able to do it via Finnair or Royal Jordanian’s websites.
