• How to use a credit card to pay vendors who don’t accept credit cards?

Posted by Isobel on October 20, 2023 at 12:05 pm

I have a remodel project coming up that I’d like to pay with my credit card to get the welcome bonus. However, my contractor doesn’t accept credit cards. I signed up Melio as a sole prop to make a payment, but they want documents to prove my business which I don’t have. I tried to use Plastiq, but I can’t seem to add my Chase Ink Business Preferred credit card to its site.

Does anyone have a good alternative to paying vendors with a credit card? I was going to look into PayPal next.

PayPal is it works or Venmo. I wouldn’t use a Chase or Amex card on Venmo but I always use either a CapOne or Citi card through Venmo with no issues. Yes there is still a fee through Venmo and only you can decide if it’s worth it not. When I have remodel work or landscaping work and the contractor won’t take credit cards, I use Venmo.

Offer to pay the contractor’s supplier with your credit card.

From the contractor standpoint, you could dispute the bill on a credit card,

Depends on how much he trusts you and how you trust him

I always offer to pay the fee, everyone has been happy to oblige. Failing that I’d be looking for a contractor who would do that. I’m not stingy, I don’t need fee-free credit card processing. Just let me pay the fee and let’s all be on our way!

I always just flat out ask them if they take credit cards, after they know I’m going to do it with or without them, they will take credit card payments without a fee or at least with a fee.
