If I Pay For AA Flight With Chase Card, Do I Get Free Checked Bag?
I got the Barclays Aviator Red Card.
Almost ready to book my first award flight ever.
If I book with my AA miles and pay with my Chase Sapphire Preferred for the taxes, am I insured for the missed connection?
Does not using the AA card take away my free checked bags?
Trying to figure out which card to use for those taxes.

Free bags are tied to your AA Loyalty number so you don’t need to use the card to get the free bags.
Yes, paying with your Sapphire will apply the travel protections.

I can confirm that my Chase Sapphire Preferred insurance paid a trip delay claim 2 months ago for an AA ticket booked with miles and only the taxes and fees put on the Sapphire card.
I can’t imagine that the CSR would be any different.

Chase Sapphire Reserve insurance kicks in if you’ve paid a portion of your flight (in this case taxes) with it.
Your AA credit card gets you a free checked bag on domestic flights, whether you pay with it or not.
