Just from my experiences. There are of course a lot of variables. Maybe play around on some Award search tool websites and Google flights to see your options.

Emirates fly from FLL

Do NOT fly into FLL from out of the US. It has the absolutely worst, most disorganized passport control of any airport i have ever transited thru.

LIS, BCN, LHR, MAD, lots of options. Depends on what alliance but MIA is AA heavy and FLL is Delta heavy
