I’ve run into this as well for cruises, the solo traveler cost is just too high for me to justify, especially as the cruise itself often needs to be paid for with cash instead of points, unless you find a rare great deal.
I don’t have a workaround other than strong-arming someone to go with you.
If you’re gutsy you could try to go with a stranger off the many solo traveler facebook groups, but certainly, this can be very problematic for a good number of reasons.
Or you can meet your new best friend?!
Lol I’m not saying I’d recommend this necessarily, it’s just one of the few options I’ve thought of.

My recommendation is to bring a cheap travel steamer with him.
It could help because even garment bags can wrinkle clothes a little.
Suits are a hassle to travel with, whether you wear them or pack them!

HT6 in Rome is right in the center of the Jewish quarter, near Shul and all the kosher restaurants are right outside including some that serve breakfast.
While HT6 is not a kosher hotel per se, they label all items on the breakfast buffet that are kosher.
It is not a luxury hotel but a lovely boutique hotel.
Highly recommend.
We had a two-story lovely room with spa spa-like bathroom downstairs and a second bathroom upstairs.

Regardless of what you buy, make sure you have a bag that has 4 spinners instead of just 2.
Way easier to pull in an airport and plus you can stack your backpack or laptop bag on it too.
I personally use this 21-inch TravelPro expandable carry on suitcase.

Make sure your passport has at least 6 months of validity.
They’re extremely strict about it.
My sister wasn’t able to board her flight because it had less than 6 months.

40 minutes is probably pretty tight unless you want to run thru the airport.
I would recommend asking to be re-booked.

It’s not necessarily just about Covid but about all the other sickness that people fly with and don’t have the courtesy of wearing a mask to keep germs at bay.
I have found I’ve not been as sick since wearing one while traveling.
