What you’re describing is called ‘skiplagging,’ and it goes against the airline’s Terms & Conditions (the fine print stuff).
If you try it on a round-trip flight, they’ll probably cancel the rest of your itinerary.
People who do this often travel one-way with no checked bags, but frequent skiplaggers have been banned from airlines.
Since you booked a round trip, I strongly advise against trying this.

I suggest you save your money and treat yourself to a nice meal and drinks at a sit-down restaurant before your flight.
Then, use the extra cash to pre-order a nice cheese platter for yourself and a special meal for your kids onboard.
These days, the food in most airport lounges isn’t much better than what you’d find in a food court.
As someone who travels for business often, I’ve stopped bothering with lounges because they’re expensive, crowded, and, no offense, full of kids.
I used to enjoy the quiet atmosphere to get work done, but now they feel like cheap buffets in Vegas.
Especially the lounges by American and United are pretty average.

MemberApril 3, 2024 at 5:45 pm in reply to: Can I Combine 2 Credit Card Travel Insurance Policies? No, you cannot split coverage 50-50, and no, you cannot hold two policies simultaneously.
Insurance companies will dispute over which policy holds precedence, and the primary policy would be responsible for coverage.
The secondary policy would only pay out if the coverage of the primary policy falls short.

My family used to do this when I was younger.
We’d just got to the local taxi rank and set up a car & driver there & never had issues.
The driver usually slept in the car.
I’m sure you can use services & hotel concierges, etc, but it’ll be more expensive.
FYI they also have Uber or Ola Cabs there and you can rent a driver for the day with them.

United TravelBank can only be used on United flights, that’s why it doesn’t show up for Lufthansa.

Wyndham Business Earner Card gets you 8x on gas.
Not transferable, but the card comes with a ton of other benefits that make it worth keeping.
Otherwise, Citi Premier gets 3x.

They will book for you both (since this is your first time booking award tickets with Turkish directly and you are booking for 2).

Do make sure you use a US site to book, eg Kayak or Booking.com because booking direct is a rip off!
I live in NZ and I always book through a US aggregator which saves me hundreds of dollars.

MemberDecember 15, 2023 at 3:11 pm in reply to: Which Card Is Best? Chase Sapphire Reserve Or Venture X?I have both and very much like both.
But keep in mind Chase Sapphire Reserve also has Priority Pass but also restaurants and the super nice, but limited, Sapphire lounges.
$300 travel credit (for anything- even tolls and airport parking).
Which really makes it a $250 Annual Fee.
3x dining and travel (not in the portal), primary car rental insurance and trip delay of 6 hours.
Capital One Venture X – just booked an extra night in Key West using their $300 hotel credit via the portal.
They quoted $50 more than the hotel, so now I have that credit in the portal.
The 2x on all purchases is great and I prepay utilities, car insurance etc with it but the CSR is a really great card to start with.
They both give the same TSA / Global Entry credits.

Now post-pandemic, I canceled mine about 2 years ago since I’m not traveling anymore.

Also a multivitamin/immunity supplement (we like Nuun).
Also Purell hand sanitizer before eating anything.
We avoid western/tourist restaurants and eat at small family-run places, or ideally street food.
Wherever the locals are lined up!

MemberNovember 14, 2023 at 9:11 pm in reply to: What’s Best Credit Card For Traveling Internationally? The broad answer will be one without a Foreign Transaction Fee.
Which cards do you have?
Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink, Citi Premier, Amex Gold, Capital One Venture or Capital One Venture X are all good options and will earn different levels of points.
A Visa or Mastercard will be accepted pretty much everywhere and in some places Amex can be problematic but that is less of an issue in the UK and major cities in Europe.
The Sapphires are popular for many reasons but one that stands out is the travel protections which can save you some headaches while traveling.
Other cards do have travel protections too but the Sapphire protections tend to be broad.
