The good news is that as of December 2023, Alaska Mileage Plan no longer charges for any change or redeposit fees on award tickets.

However, since you are booking on Japan Airlines, Alaska charges a $12.50 partner booking fee, which is non-refundable if you cancel.

If you have Global Entry you’ll be fine.

You’ll grab your bags after immigration and then walk through customs and then there’ll be an area where you can immediately recheck.

If you need to switch terminals you’ll just take the Skytrain after TSA.

An hour should be fine with both Global Entry and TSA PreCheck.

I did it all in 25 minutes last week with 2 checked bags

If you are looking to do some excursions, I recommend Cancun Adventures.

They provided excellent service for the Chichen Itza visit.

The guide went out of her way to get my friend a little cake when we said it was his 30th b-day.

A totally well-appreciated surprise and she even recommended local shops and restaurants back in Playa and we had so much fun.

Worth every penny.

We also did an excursion to a Cenote and a lagoon to do some snorkeling with them and once again the guide was really funny and helpful.

This is standard Amex Offer terms for in-store purchases.

Mobile card terminals aren’t usually an issue but third-party billing systems are.

It used to be that Square processed transactions wouldn’t trigger Amex Card Offers and points earning but now they do.

Other third-party processors still don’t.

I don’t think you will have an issue if you pay with Apple/Samsung/Google Wallet payments.
