Of all the major award search engines, in my opinion, Points.Yeah is the fastest and most comprehensive.
It is not even close!
Best part is that Points Yeah is free, so you have nothing to lose.

If you decide to still go for an Airbnb, like others suggested, I’d recommend buying gift cards at office supplies stores for 5x using a Chase Ink Cash and then earning Delta points by booking the Airbnb using the Delta partnership link.
I rationalize if I’m not using points for the stay, at least I’m earning SkyMiles plus 2x on travel with my Chase Sapphire Preferred or Capital One Venture X.

We stayed at the Duodo Palace Hotel in Venice and absolutely loved it!
The rooms were spacious with lovely views of a canal, and the breakfast provided was really delicious.
The location is perfect, right in the heart of everything and not too far from St. Mark’s Square.
We’re not sure about the price because we booked it through our travel agent as part of our 3-week Europe trip, but we were really impressed with the hotel.
One evening, we dined at a fantastic pizza place recommended by the hotel.
Unfortunately, we can’t recall the name, but it was quite near to the hotel!

Look at Virgin and Flying Blue for Air France and KLM who are Delta Partners as a backdoor way to book Delta.

Some are being told, as you are, that they will have to call all the time.
Some were told that but discovered it was linked after all (check and see if you got lucky).
Some were told that it was linked when it wasn’t.
I’ve seen others who have had it linked for some time lose that link and be told they would have to call from now on (someone even reported that P1->P2 was lost but P2->P1 remained).
And others have seen absolutely no changes.
It’s definitely a YMMV type of thing.

Immigration / Customs at Keflavik airport is very efficient.
Last time I got through within 15 minutes.
And they don’t usually operate the huge jumbo jets so even if a few planes land at the same time there are not that many people to get through.

Ask them to refund to a different card

No, not possible.
Imagine if someone did a charge back.

I find my best deals through Travelocity.
Most of the time way cheaper than direct and my Hertz status upgrades still work if I skip the counters and go straight to the President’s Circle area to pick a car and then swing by the booth to have them sign it out.

This applies to cash fares and award tickets.
