What kind of change are you looking to make?
I’ve changed my booking multiple times using miles reservations without any extra charge, and got my points back immediately.
The only reason not to do that is if you need to book for the same day or same flight, and the points have increased.

Buy gift cards like if you can get a deal at Office Depot (I think they’re doing no fee sales right now) and get a multiplier with your Ink Cash Card
Activate Rakuten, make sure you’ve got it set up to pay Amex MR points instead of cash (it does not matter what card you are using to pay for your purchase, Rakuten is gonna give you the MR points no matter what as long as you have an amex linked to your acct)

Yes you can double dip this with Rakuten.
Similarly you can do the same with United and Vrbo
Pay with your gift cards.
If you don’t wanna pay with gift cards, use Awardwallet merchant list to see which of your cards gets the most points when booking through there.

I recommend Samsonite, you can find them at TJ Maxx or Marshalls for $100-$150, and it is a great choice.
It performs well and comes with a 10 year warranty.
I have firsthand experience with its durability, during a year of weekly travel by air or bus while working on tour, my Samsonite luggage remained in excellent condition.

I am flying to Bali this year with Singapore Airlines, a round trip from JFK to Singapore and then to Bali.
I have booked two business-class seats, and I made the reservation a year in advance.

Hilton because the location is super convenient.
Across from the Central train station.
Just outside the hotel front door is a convenience store where you can buy a lot of items.
About a block away downhill are tons of restaurants.
The beautiful Gran-Place square is just a short walk away.

Basically, that’s like throwing away Euros because you want to spend Yen.
They are different currencies – but they CAN both be transferred to some other travel partners, just different ones.
This is a marathon – you’ll need to get many different cards (and hold on to many) to keep running the race.

FlightView is the best free version I’ve found to track all of my upcoming flights under the same roof to know about gate changes, delays, or cancellations.
They get information before airline apps, the only issue is they really have been increasing the adds recently.

I personally would choose the lie-flat seat over the recliner if the prices were close.
Edited to add: if Alaska costs more than AA, then choose the lie-flat!
It’s an almost 6-hour flight and you’ll be more comfortable.

Cathay denied me but British Airways didn’t have an issue.

I agree with this.
I will consider a round-trip price divided by two.
But it ultimately comes down to how you value the flights.
If your round-trip business ticket is $10,000, $5,000 each way, and the one-way ticket in Business is 80,000 miles, that’s 6.25 CPP.
But would you really have forked over $5,000 for that ticket??
If not the value probably isn’t really 6 cents a point then.
This makes calculating value so difficult, and why everyone has their own value for points.
