Flights to anywhere in Hawaii from SAN or LAX are always ridiculously cheap.
Save your points, book a positioning flight to California, spend a night there and fly there on the cheap on cash.

Great value can be found in both of those programs if you know what you’re looking for.

Status challenges are more likely to come about but currently don’t know of one that would be worth it.

Cobranded cards have to match the name on the account to the name on the frequent flyer program.
Some loyalty programs do allow free points pooling for families but with their own rules & limits.
