I do this now automatically with any borderline EC261/UK261 eligible connection.
If the first available flight in your same cabin is non-Oneworld, you’re entitled to rebook to that – useful for getting a mileage credit elsewhere even if you booked a BA award ticket.
Always be firm in outlining that they’re LEGALLY OBLIGATED to rebook you to that flight if there’s availability & that’s your preference, requesting a manager if they say they can only rebook to BA/OW.
However, if you can afford to arrive a little later to your destination, & you’re sure the reason for the misconnect was not extraordinary circumstances, you can opt for a later flight on BA that’ll have you arrive more than 4 hours after your original arrival time.
Flew the first leg of LAX-AMS-ARN on KLM last month.
Second leg was canceled due to a technical issue.
Opted not to accept the first rebooking on SAS to ARN leaving 90 minutes earlier than the last KLM flight of the day & told them to rebook me to the latter.
Spent a couple more hours at the KLM lounge than I had to but my compensation went from €300 (50% of over 3500km category for under 4 hours delay) to €600 (100% over 4 hours).

They were great for transportation to/from our hotel.
No issues and very reliable.

Can call credit card to verify.
I’ve booked award tickets, paid for just the taxes, and my bags got lost, and was able to get reimbursed by Chase travel insurance.

52.5K from US to India is the sweet spot.
Virgin through LHR is 85K (decent with a transfer bonus) but has higher fees especially outbound.
You can also see if Qatar still has availability (more likely to find for fall) as they should also be 80K (70K through AA)

When you sit at a slot machine you insert your Sail & Sign and withdraw $ from there (room charge) to play.
You can enter a few hundred if you want, play a few dollars, and cash out.
You then go to the cashier and give them your card and ask to cash out and they give you money.
I did this on my last carnival cruise in August when I was short on cash.
I roomed charged and cashed out.

Based on your timing I see (EK 384 arriving in HKG at 18:05), I wouldn’t blow 80k Hilton points if you’re not going to be there to enjoy the lounge for twilight cocktails.
The breakfast is very good either in the lounge or in the lobby (though if your goal is foodie stuff you may save your stomach space for more interesting adventures).
The Intercontinental didn’t upgrade me under the old program, but maybe it does now.

Not worth using points.

Yes, I did that 4 months ago and got approved for both.

As others stated, many others have done similar.
