Just check and see when it expires, because some of them expire every year.

Have to use them on flights.

On one ticket super simple, no transit immigration.
Hit or miss on two tickets.
Generally, good luck getting bags checked all the way through via interline agreement.
Taxes and fees are quite a bit higher than positioning to SFO or LAX via awards.

I don’t use that because there are many better ways to redeem points, but it might be an option for trains if you really want that.
Also, beware that a rail pass is not always the best option (even if it ends up cheaper).
I travel a lot within Europe and depending on where you are going train is not always the most convenient.
I like the flexibility of choosing the best mode (train, bus, plane, boat) based on the circumstances.

Do a Google search as this is covered in quite a few forums.

Still waiting on a $500 purchase at 10x to post from over 2 months ago.
If Rakuten misses a purchase, they post it immediately after receiving a copy of the receipt.

Holding award space reserves the space but not the rate so that wouldn’t work.
Some airlines do a “fare” lock paid option which can reserve the rate but that isn’t an option here.

I agree with everyone that paying the taxes / fees on the card should at a minimum trigger the coverage.
I still think the points should count because the points were “accumulated from a rewards program sponsored by Chase,” but either way I would think paying taxes / fees with the card is enough.

Your connection might not be in the same terminal and you might need to take the monorail.
I did this last week.

But yes, I canceled and rebooked.
I originally booked through the Capital One portal, but then a sale occurred so I canceled and rebooked on the same flight, using the Avelo travel credit that was provided.
But there is no refund on my credit card hence why I’m wondering if it will be covered.
How would they know the first flight was canceled if there was no refund to my credit card?
